Qatar charity to fund projects in rural Darfur

The Qatar Charity on Monday announced a project to improve the livelihoods of people affected by the Darfur crisis. The project, funded with 4 million riyals (more than US$1 million), aims to improve the lives of 65,000 people in Darfur. Nasser Al Kaabi, member of the Board of Directors of the Qatari foundation, said the project aims to develop rural areas in Darfur and to decrease the level of poverty, according to Gulf news sources. Throughout 18 months a team of 20 professionals will focus on income-generating projects in South and West Darfur, including training farmers in agricultural techniques and rehabilitation of land. The Qatari government and the Qatar Charity will split the cost.
