Photos of craters proof air raids in South Kordofan

New satellite images show the craters and torched towns after aerial bombardments in South Kordofan’s Dilling and Buram counties from 17 to 24 November. The Sudan Armed Forces bombed and clashed with armed rebel groups in Tanasa and Kundukr, among other.  The satellite imagery comes from the Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP), which concludes its report saying: “There is a significant increase in the Sudan Armed Forces’ capability to inflict harm on civilians.” SSP researchers said that “two of Sudan’s new precision bombs can wipe away the area of a football court”, as they have measured the size of the bomb craters. On 17 November, the Sudanese Air Force bombed the towns of Buram and Tanasa, south of Kadugli. The satellite photograph as seen below shows a new crater in Tanasa. Two children were killed in these attacks.Kundukr town Photographs from 24 November showed the impact of the Air Force in Kundukr town, as seen below. There is an active fire in the town and a Sudanese army battalion of vehicles. According to SSP, “at least 142 structures, mostly huts and tents, are visibly damaged and burned. The images contrast sharply with satellite photographs taken before the destruction.”  Both ground sources and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North spokesperson have confirmed the attacks in Kundukr area. 24,920 people are displaced because of the shelling, the spokesperson said. The Satellite Sentinel Project issued a human security warning in October 2013 based on increased activity at Sudanese military installations. It also has documented the clashes and aerial bombardments in Abu Zabad on 17 November.See below for photos extracted from satsentinel.orgFile photo Radio DabangaRelated:More than 24,900 civilians displaced in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains: SPLM-N (27 November 2013)Satellite photos indicate bomb craters in Sudan’s Abu Zabad (23 November 2013)
