Advocacy group discusses the implications of the Arab spring on Sudan

John Prendergast, the founder and president of ENOUGH group, urged that the targeting of civlians in South Kordofan and Blue Nile by the Sudanese Air Froce must stop immediately.Another measure suggested by Prendergast to deal with Sudan was to increase the economic sanctions imposed on the country by countries in Europe and the US. That, he said would bring the government officials responsible for human rights violations to book.

In an essay published on Friday, Prendergast said, “Sudanese people deserve no less that the people of Egypt, Libya, Syria and other areas helped by the United States and its allies in achieving peace, development and security.”

He added that the US as well as other government should focus on a framework that includes all states to agree on a peace agreement. That, Prendergast said, should be followed by free and fair elections as well as provide immediate protection to the people of Darfur, Blue Nile and Nuba mountains.
