Opposition: Postpone Sudan’s 2015 elections

Sudan’s Popular Congress Party (PCP) has called on President Al-Bashir to postpone the General Elections scheduled for April 2015. In an interview with Radio Dabanga broadcast on Thursday, Dr Ali Al-Hajj, Assistant Secretary-General of the Popular Congress Party, said that they will not enter the elections scheduled for April. “Early elections are premature and cannot be a success without wider consensus among all Parties in Sudan. We therefore call on the President to delay them until the conditions are more conducive. Otherwise it is senseless,” Al-Hajj said. Boycott Speaking for the National Consensus Forces (NCF), Mohamed Dia Eldin, told Radio Dabanga that the NCF will boycott the April elections. “We cannot participate in elections run by the ruling National Congress Party, as they will be especially unfair and undemocratic; conducted while there is still war being waged, without the participation of all Sudanese citizens.” He stressed that NCF participation is conditional on the government implementing a full transitional government, elected in free, honest, and fair elections, with a mandate to establish a new Constitution for Sudan. Voter registration for the 2015 elections started in October. The PCP is one of the parties participating in Sudan’s National Dialogue Process. The NCF, have boycotted the National Dialogue Process citing similar reasons for their non-participation.
