Opposition calls on South Darfuris to demonstrate against arrests

The National Consensus Forces (NCF), a coalition of opposition parties, reported that the security services are still harassing and arresting its members in South Darfur. The NCF appealed to the residents of South Darfur state to protest by way of peaceful demonstrations to topple the government of the ruling National Congress Party and act for the release of detainees, among them the lawyer Adam Sharif, and teacher Nadir Ahmed Yasin. The Spokesman of the NCF, Shamseldin Ahmed Salih, told Radio Dabanga that the security services are still harassing and arresting its members in Nyala. Salih called for the establishment of a coordinating committee to recruit and mobilise people, to list the names of all detainees, provide legal aid, and organise peaceful demonstrations. Memorandum Lawyers in Nyala have presented a memorandum to the Head Prosecutor of Nyala demanding the release of their colleague, Adam Sharif, the teacher Nadir Ahmed Yasin, and others who were arrested after the outbreak of the recent protests. In the memorandum, the lawyers demand the authorities to allow relatives of the detainees to visit them, as well as to return the car of Adam Sharif, who is being held at security premises, to his family. The lawyers have not yet received a reply to their memorandum.
