One woman killed in armed robbery in South Darfur

One woman was killed and three other people were wounded during an armed robbery on a vehicle driving near Gireida town, South Darfur, on Friday. A witness told Radio Dabanga that 12 members of a militia, armed with machine guns, wearing military uniforms, and riding on camels, opened fire at about 9 am on a commercial vehicle in the area of Donki Hadub. The vehicle was on its way from Nyala and 10 km away from Gireida. One internally displaced woman, Mariam Abdallah Noreen, was killed on the spot. Daoud Abdallah Mawla, Ali Mohamed Suleiman, and Saleh Servo, the driver, sustained injuries. The listener said that 12 passengers escaped during the shooting, including Adam Suleiman (also known as Adam Kahraba) Abdallah Jibril Adam, Halima Mohamed, and Sadia Isa. Some of the militiamen ran after these passengers, and the witness did not know if they either escaped or were killed. After the militiamen intercepted the vehicle with the gunfire, they beat the remaining passengers with stones, whips, and rifle butts. They looted their money, mobile phones, and some of their shirts and shoes. In Gireida, a delegation of some of the local administrations moved to the site of the attack. The police and the army forces had refused to go to the site. The administrations have retrieved the body of Mariam Abdallah Noreen. File photo
