Nuba demand investigation into Sudan drownings

The Nuba Students’ Association and the Committee of Solidarity with the Victims of the September 2013 Demonstrations strongly condemn the drowning of five people in Khartoum North on 14 October.
Fatima Ali Nato (45), Salwa Ali Kuku (35) and her daughter Rowena Daoud (5 months), Ashol Kol Bei (40), and Eisa Ali Bakheet (30) drowned in the Nile after fleeing security forces who used batons and hoses to evict them from illegally built shelters in the Um Dom district, the organisations said in a joint statement on Tuesday.
They demand an investigation into the incident by an independent committee to “do justice to the victims and bring those involved to a fair trial”.
