‘NISS detains Unamid technician in Darfur’: relative

Agents of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) reportedly detained a Unamid staff member in North Darfur on Sunday, one of the man’s relatives told Radio Dabanga. Ahmed Abdel Moneim was apparently on his way to the Unamid base in Kabkabiya where he works as an electrical technician. “At about 8am on Sunday, just in front of the gates of the Unamid base, his vehicle was stopped by three masked NISS agents in civilian clothes.” The relative said that Moneim “was immediately put on board a UN flight to El Fasher”. Upon arriving at El Fasher airport, NISS elements put into a vehicle with darkened windows, the relative said, adding he did not know the reason why Moneim was detained, or where he is being held. At time of posting, Radio Dabanga was unable to contact Unamid for comment on this report. File Photo by Albert González Farran/Unamid
