N. Darfur camp closed for 1 week due to ‘constant attacks’

Displaced living in Zam Zam near El-Fasher in North Darfur are complaining the camp has been closed for one week due to constant attacks by pro-government militias and Central Reserve Forces (known as Abu Tira). Assaults began on 5 February at the camp when Abu Tira forces reportedly looted eight shops and fired random shots in the air in and outside the camp.Sources told Radio Dabanga they believed the incursion was in retaliation of the murder of two of their forces by “unknown gunmen” at a water station earlier that day.Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Tuesday, 12 February, Zam Zam’s residents urged North Darfur’s government to immediately resolve the problem and provide them protection.This way, they stressed, shops can reopen and the displaced can continue with their regular activities.Radio Dabanga file photo: Displaced campRelated: 3 consecutive days of attacks at N.
