Motorcycle ban makes East Darfur farms difficult to reach

People working on farms in East Darfur state have complained about the effects of the Governor’s decision to ban motorcycles as one of his measures to improve the security.

A farmer estimated that about 300 farmers and craftsmen have been affected by the ban on the use of motorcycles. This is their only way of transport to reach the pastoral and agricultural areas, located far away from public transport routes.

He told Radio Dabanga that many of the affected workers have filed a complaint against State Governor Anas Omar Mohamed, but they have not received a response yet.

“We may resort to alternative solutions, including moving to big cities and leaving the farmlands,” the farmer said.

Governor Omar Mohamed said in the beginning of this month that the situation in the state has been stable after the security committee’s enforced a number of deterrent decisions.
