More than 73.000 refugees from Kordofan violence, UN says

The United Nations (UN) announced Wednesday that more than 73.000 thousand people fled from the violence in South Kordofan since fighting began more than two weeks ago between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).

The UN confirmed using statistics taken from Sudanese Red Crescent and Humanitarian Aid Commission along with UN agencies in Kadugli that more than 73.000 people fled from different localities in central and eastern in South Kordofan as a result of the fighting. In another development, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) said that six of its local staff were arrested by the Sudanese authorities in Kadugli airport and described the arrests as a violation to the agreement between it and the government, since the agreement includes a stipulation of immunity for its staff.
