More than 1800 die in S. Sudan violence so far this year

The United Nations said Friday that more than 1800 people died this year in violent incidents in different parts of South Sudan. The bloodshed comes ahead of the Independence of South Sudan which will begin next Saturday.

The United Nations said Friday that more than 1800 people died this year in violent incidents in different parts of South Sudan. The bloodshed comes ahead of the Independence of South Sudan which will begin next Saturday. The UN reports showed 1836 people were killed in tribal conflicts or attacks launched by rebel groups, including 273 killed during the first two weeks of June. There were more than 300 attacks in nine out of the ten states of the south. The reports also showed that currently, there are more than 260000 displaced people in the south, including 100000 who fled from Abyei.
