Minni Minawi’s faction reaches power-sharing deal with Natl. Congress

The Sudan Liberation Movement faction of Minni Minawi said that it has reached a power-sharing agreement with the National Congress. Re-negotiation of the previous alliance between the two parties was necessary because some provisions of the Darfur Peace Agreement expired with the April 2010 elections.

Re-negotiation of the previous alliance between the two parties was necessary because some provisions of the Darfur Peace Agreement expired with the April 2010 elections.In the new agreement, Minni Minawi will keep the post of Senior Assistant to the President as well as Minister of State and Head of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority. Dr. Al Rayah Mahmoud, the deputy chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement and head of the faction’s negotiations with the government, said that the ex-rebel faction will also receive top-level state positions. Members of the faction will be appointed as advisors in each of the three states of Darfur. Dr. Al Rayah was speaking on the programme ‘Frankly Speaking’, which will be broadcast on Radio Dabanga on Thursday evening.
