A school student (13) died of bullet wounds and another was injured in Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, on Friday.

Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a listener reported that on Friday evening members of a government-backed militia opened fire at a wedding party in Imtidad El Sawra North district in Zalingei.

“Matar Mohamed Osman and Marji Abdallah Abakar were hit,”he said. “Osman was killed instantly, and Abakar was transferred to El Geneina Hospital in West Darfur, as the medics at Zalingei Hospital are still on strike.”

He said that the attack occurred “within 24 hours of the killing of another school student in Zalingei. On Thursday night, Adam Abakar was shot dead, and Makawi Hassan Abdallah sustained bullet wounds in an armed robbery in Zalingei's El Jazayir district.

The source called on the authorities to exert efforts to control the militiamen, “who have become a real threat to the safety of the population of the Central Darfur urban areas”.

Central Darfur Governor Ja'afar Abdelhakam imposed emergency measures in the beginning of July, to “decisively deter” the ongoing crimes committed in the state.
