Meeting of Directors for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur

The first meeting of the Council of the Board of Directors for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur was held in Doha on Monday under chairmanship of the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al Mahmoud, the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reports. Also present were the State Minister at the Council of Ministers and Chairman of the Office for Follow up Darfur Peace, Dr Amin Hassan Omer, Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority, Dr Tijani Sese, besides representatives of Unamid, the UN, the European Union, the United Kingdom, China, Turkey, Germany and Brazil. The Qatari Deputy PM received the Special Representative of the UN and African Union for Darfur and Chairman of the UN and African Union Mission for Darfur, Mohamed bin Chambas. They discussed the agenda of the first meeting of the Board of Directors for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur and the sixth meeting of the committee for the follow up of Implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. The meeting of the Board of Directors for Rehabilitation and Development reviewed the accomplishments at the strategy of development in Darfur, the funding mechanism, tasks of the Board of Directors of the Council of the Board of Directors for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur and the tasks of its secretariat, besides the requirements of Darfur Regional Authority and the long and short term projects. Al Mahmoud said that holding of the meeting affirms the concern and determination of the international community to implement the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, in addition to its commitment to its financial pledges which were declared at the International Donors Conference for Rehabilitation and Development in Darfur which was held in Doha in last April.
