‘Medical care a major problem for C Darfur displaced’ –camp leader
The leader of a Central Darfur camp declared that medical care has become one of the major problems for the displaced. Treatment is only available for holders of health insurance cards, which he says, are “not accessible”. Meanwhile, Nertiti’s displaced are complaining about the “spread of health problems” in the camp, such as diarrhea, flu and severe headaches among children. The camp is also experiencing a “drinking water crisis” caused by problems with water pumps and taps, the leader said. Residents of Nertiti are demanding the concerned authorities to help them resolve their problems. Nertiti is home to more than 42.000 displaced according to the UN OCHA. It has recently received an extra 25.000 families who fled the battles between rebels and government troops in the West Jebel Marra area of Central Darfur, reports suggested. In another development, the camp’s leader told Radio Dabanga that about 100 families of Nertiti have “failed to catch up with the cards’ registration” to receive food rations. He appealed to the World Food Programme (WFP) to find a solution to this “urgent” problem. The WFP resumed the cards registration process in February at Nertiti camps after a suspension of over one year.
