Lawyers appeal to Minister of Justice for release of 6 IDP leaders

A group of Darfur lawyers, chaired by Mohamed Abdullah Duma, yesterday requested that the Sudanese Minister of Justice ensure the release of six sheikhs of internally displaced people (IDP). The detainees are Adam Yahia Daw Al Beit, Abul Bashar Ali Ahmad, Hussein Isaag Yahia Adam, Hafiz Idriss Duma, Zahra Abdulrahman Musa, and Adam Harun Idriss. Lawyer Yusuf Adem Basher told Radio Dabanga in an interview that the men have been detained illegally since they were arrested last year in Abu Shouk and Assalam camps in El Fasher. The detainees have been held under provisions of the Emergency Law.

The detainees have been held under provisions of the Emergency Law.Meanwhile, 50 families have joined the hunger strike in Abu Shouk and Assalam camps, now in its fifth day. They are protesting the detention of their relatives in El Fasher for a year without charge or trial. Reportedly, the detainees began their hunger strike more than a week ago. The mother of one of the detainees in an interview appealed to the authorities to release her son and the rest of the detainees immediately and said that they would continue their strike until that is done.
