JEM suspends dialogue with government, LJM continues

The Justice and Equality Movement announced a suspension of its dialogue with the government of Sudan in Doha, until they have further clarifications on the Presidential Decree regarding the referendum on the administrative status of Darfur. JEM conditioned the resumption of the dialogue in Doha on clarification by the mediation and the government on the government’s stance on the issue of the referendum. The official spokesman of JEM, Djibril Bilal criticized the position of the mediation saying that they neglected to respond to the decree.

The joint mediation responded to the rebels’ protest memorandum by announcing it is preparing a compromise text regarding the referendum this month. Chief negotiator of the LJM, Taj al-Din Naim, said his movement has decided to continue with the talks in the Doha forum.
