Italian tourists in 4X4 attacked, injured in Darfur

Two Italian tourists have been injured in an attack by a militia south of Nierteti in Central Darfur on Tuesday. The 41-year-old Bello Garinty and the 33-year-old Floko Resfayn were travelling through Sudan to Chad in a four-wheel-drive vehicle. They were on their way from Nyala to El Geneina when a pro-government militia attacked their car and shot at them at 5am near Kubr El Nahal. Both victims broke their hands and were transferred to the hospital in Nierteti, eyewitnesses told Radio Dabanga.The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) transported the Italians to Zalingei after they were treated on Wednesday. They will be interrogated. It is unclear whether the two men had a travel permit, as foreigners face difficulties to be allowed traveling in Darfur.
