Imam detained in Gireida, South Darfur

An outspoken Imam of the Grand Mosque in Gireida, South Darfur, was detained by security forces this morning.A large number of citizens gathered in front of the security forces office demanding the release of the Imam. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, one of the protesters reported that Sheikh Abdel Razeg Abdel Nur El Fada was taken from his house adjacent to the mosque. He was taken to the security office of Gireida. “The Imam was detained because he criticised the Zakat Chamber of South Darfur in his sermon on Friday. He urged the Chamber to distribute the Islamic alms collected as stipulated in the Holy Koran,” the source explained. “The word of God should be heeded when distributing the alms to people who are in real need.
