Haul of cannabis in South Darfur

The police narcotics branch of South Darfur seized large quantities of cannabis (marijuana) in El Radoom locality on Tuesday. During searches at cannabis-producing areas in El Radoom locality, neighbouring the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the police squad found 4,450 “ready-to-sell” cobs of cannabis, and about 735kg of cannabis seeds. The police showed the results of its campaign to the local press in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on Tuesday. Four firearms and seven mobile telephones were also seized.    Members of the National Parliament accused government employees of cultivating cannabis in Darfur in a heated discussion mid-April. This seizure comes less than a week after the find in Port Sudan of five containers filled with various drugs, discovered by customs officers among a load of maize imported by a Sudanese company.
