Former civil servants of the Darfur Transitional Authority are angry about the delay in payments. This led them to break into the Ministry of Finance in Khartoum on Thursday.They demanded a meeting with the Finance Minister, Ali Mahmoud, who refused and instead referred them to the ministry’s accounting manager, Rihimtalla. The security services arrested the committee member Sayf al-Din Saleh Haroun, but released him later that day.

Employees in civil service positions, created by the Darfur Transitional Authority lost their jobs after the formation of the Darfur Regional Authority, created under the Doha Document for Peace. A financial compensation was promised to the laid-off employees.

The committee member Ali Mohammadayn told Radio Dabanga that the Ministry of Finance they only received 20% of the promised financial compensation. The payments have been delayed for several months now.
