Exam students protest, torch schools in Central Darfur

School students demonstrated at the conclusion of the Sudanese certificate examinations in Zalingei, Central Darfur on Thursday. Several classrooms were set on fire.

The secondary school students arrived from Rokoro in Jebel Marra in the Central Darfur state capital to do their exams this week.

A number of students started a protest which resulted in the burning of a number of classrooms and offices in the three schools in Zalingei, where the students had been staying during the exams.

The exact motive for the protest and the torching of the offices was still unclear at the time of reporting.

The affected schools are Umelmuminin School in El Wihda district, the Abubaker El Siddig complex in El Hasahisa and the Umelgura School in Kungumiya district.

Security forces arrested four students while other students were immediately transferred from Zalingei back to Rokoro.
