Donors’ demands pose ‘challenges’ to Darfur Regional Authority

The head of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) Tijani Sese has announced it is facing challenges due to demands of Doha donors including travel permissions to aid groups working in Darfur and a 200 million dollar contribution from Khartoum.   In a press conference in Khartoum on Saturday, he also said that in case of donors’ reluctance to meet their financial obligations, the government of Sudan and DRA would “rely on local resources for the achievement of development in Darfur, what would take a long time”.Sese disclosed he would push forward three “key priorities” during the conference for Darfur next April in Doha: rebuilding and reconstruction, justice and reconciliation, and early recovery projects.Photo: Tijani Sese (file)See also: Doha conference for Darfur to be held in April (6 February 2013)
