Displaced women raped, beaten in Central Darfur

On Monday, two young displaced women were gang-raped in the area of Bala, north of Nierteti, in Central Darfur. On the same day, more than 22 women of Garsila camp were assaulted by gunmen in Wadi Salih locality, Central Darfur. “Two young women of 15 and 17 years-old were working on their farmland on Monday afternoon, when a group of gunmen attacked them, and raped them alternately for three consecutive hours,” a resident of the Northern Nierteti camp for the displaced told Radio Dabanga. She said that the two minors were transferred to Nierteti hospital in a bad mental and physical condition. “They are in shock, and are not able to eat or talk.” The source called on Unamid to protect the women in the area, and demanded from the authorities to intervene, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
