A man, a woman, and their two donkeys died when an item of unexploded ordnance (UXO) detonated at El Aradeeb El Ashara in East Jebel Marra on Wednesday.

Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that Abdul Malik Abdul Nabi Eisa and Hawa Shogar Yahya were riding their donkeys along the road. The explosion killed them and both donkeys instantly.

On Tuesday, armed militia members raped two displaced girls from camp Tabit in the Keira area, ten kilometres west of Tabit.

A woman from the family of the raped girls said the incident occurred in the open when the two girls went out to collect firewood. They were attacked by three armed militia members, who raped them. They then stole one of the donkeys and left the other.

Callers reported that people fleeing the South Fanga area of of East Jebel Marra continue to arrive in in Tabit; 22 new families arrived on Tuesday.

Years of conflict have left Darfur littered with potentially deadly explosives and munitions (UXO). Radio Dabanga appeals to listeners throughout Darfur (and elsewhere in our reception area) not to touch any ‘unexploded’ grenades or other ammunition found in the field. Mark its position clearly to alert others, and report it immediately to a camp elder, Unamid and/or the local police.
