Darfuri activist Tajeldin Ahmed Arja released

The security authorities released political activist and blogger Tajeldin Ahmed Arja from Darfur after approximately four months of detention on Wednesday. Ahmed Arja said he was subjected to systematic torture during his detention and that he was released without trial. “The period of detention will not stop me from my role in the struggle to defend the rights of the Sudanese people, especially in conflict zones.” The security authorities had arrested Ahmed Arja for publicly criticising the Sudanese and the Chadian President in one of the official forums at the Friendship Hall in Khartoum in December 2013. He held both responsible for the conflict in Darfur, after which he was detained. The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) has demanded ever since that the responsible authorities follow legal procedures or release Ahmed Arja immediately.
