Darfur Regional Authority’s Assembly concludes third session with recommendations

The Assembly of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) concluded its third session in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Monday. During the session the DRA’s general policies and future plans were discussed. The Minister of DRA Affairs, Mohamed Yousif El Teleib, announced that the Assembly has issued a number of recommendations too. “The inclusion of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur in the Interim Constitution of Sudan has created an appropriate atmosphere to hold the planned Social Peace Conference to reconcile disputing tribes; to intensify campaigns against narcotics and alcohol; to review implementation of the outcomes of the People of Darfur Conference; to encourage voluntary repatriation; and to review the performance of the Committee for the Demarcation of Darfur’s northern borders.” The Assembly recommended an expansion of economic and social development projects and a fair distribution of these projects in the region of Darfur, giving particularly concern to health issues, to women, children and people with special needs, and to students’ issues, especially at the higher education level in compliance with the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur. Other recommendations concern the establishment of reconciliation councils, of agricultural and veterinary research centres, giving more concern to the legalisation of the native administration; the formation of a committee to expedite the implementation of the security arrangements, and the rationalisation of the DRA’s administrative spending.
