Darfur field commanders split from Sese’s LJM

A group of field commanders of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) have announced their breakaway from the movement. The dissidents accuse the movement’s leadership, headed by Tijani Sese, who is also the chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority, of marginalising the commanders in the field since the signing of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur with the government in 2011. The field commanders, led by Gen. Fashar Korma Abdallah Kineen, announced their withdrawal in a press statement on Thursday. Apart from the marginalisation, they complain about a lack of transparency and democracy within the LJM.
