Tijane Sese, head of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) affirmed the Darfur-Darfur conference will be held on July 10 in El Fasher, under the banner of “Peace, Development and Unity”.

During a meeting with the press on Wednesday Sese stated that the voluntary return of IDPs to their homes will top the agenda of the conference. Another important aim of the conference is to hear the views of the Darfuri society on the Doha Document for Peace. Sese said that the state of Qatar will offer $31 million to assist displaced people to return home.

Refugees from camp Zam Zam refuse to attend the conference on Tuesday. An activist in the camp told Radio Dabanga that Sese’s real aim is to dismantle the camps and that the region of Darfur is still bathed in insecurity resulting from aerial bombardments, the absence of basic facilities and the closure of roads. He then posed the question “What has Sese done for the people of Darfur since signing the Doha peace agreement a year ago?”.
