Contract for 10 new water stations in Darfur, Kordofan

The Arab Emirates-based El Maktoum Foundation signed a contract for the implementation of ten new water stations in the states of South Darfur and West Kordofan, at a cost of AED1 million ($272,175). Mohammad Obaid Bin Ganem, Secretary-General of the El Maktoum Foundation, stated that the areas have been selected according to the water scarcity. “The project will serve more than half a million people.” He added that the new water stations are expected to lead to stabilisation in the region, as the scarcity of potable water causes tribal conflicts in the regions. Five new water stations will be built in South Darfur, in the localities of Nyala, El Salam, Nateaga, and Ed El Fursan, while the five other stations will be constructed in West Kordofan’s El Sunut and Lagawa localities.
