A coalition of political parties and civil society organizations in the three Darfur states appealed to the government to postpone the elections until  peace is fully realized in Darfur. The coalition approached the European Union and UNAMID mission with the fact that it in unlikely to hold elections in Darfur. The coalition demanded the peace agreements are implemented and a democratic transformation achieved in all parts of the country.

The President of the alliance, Abdul Rahman Bashari who is also representing SPLM in the southern Darfur state, ruled out the possibility of holding elections before resolving the Darfur crisis. He said in a press conference at the headquarters of SPLM in Omdurman there is no prospect of success under the current circumstance especially in IDP and refugee camps.
