Central Darfur displaced to be ‘denied aid’ for five months

The coordinator of the Central Darfur camps for the displaced told Radio Dabanga on Monday that the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) of Central Darfur has halted relief distribution operations to the displaced in Bindisi camp. The coordinator said that at a meeting with representatives of the displaced on Saturday, the HAC informed them that aid distribution is to halt for a period of five months. “The commission justified the decision based on the fact that the camp is far from Bindisi city, the high cost of transport, and the risk of theft and looting in transit,” the coordinator said. “They will be denied relief operations for a period of five months as a punishment,” according to the coordinator, who appealed to international humanitarian organisations to intervene immediately.
