Central Darfur displaced appeal against camp shut-down

The displaced residents of Bundisi camp in Central Darfur state have denounced efforts by Bindisi locality to dismantle and close the site.A spokesman for the displaced of the camp explained to Radio Dabanga that the locality’s government has already transferred the hospital from inside the camp. This is causing residents to suffer, and has made it difficult for them to access medical treatment for the last two years. “There are also efforts by the locality’s government to relocate the grain silos and other elements from the camp to an unknown destination without consulting the displaced,” he said. “The policy that is designed to shut-down the camp has increased insecurity for residents. They love in a constant state of terror,” he explained. The spokesman demanded via Radio Dabanga that the state and locality governments, as well as relief organisations, act to stop the violation of their rights.“They need to curtail the deterioration of security, protect the displaced, improve educational facilities, and address the problems with the water stations. They need to reverse the actions aimed at shutting-down the camp,” the spokesman concluded. File photo by Albert González Farran/UNAMID
