Camp activist: ‘No food distribution for 5 months’

Displaced residents from Argo and Dali camps in North Darfur have complained about the stop in food ration distribution over the past five months, Radio Dabanga learned on Tuesday November 20. A camp activist claims that food rations have not been distributed in Argo and Dali camps since last July. He revealed that the World Food Programme (WFP) apologized for not delivering the rations to the two camps.In a meeting with camp representatives on Friday, the organization explained that the security situation in the region does not permit WFP to deliver the food rations, despite the fact that the region is under government control. Additionally, the camp activist disclosed that Tawila security asked them to pay money to protect the aid convoys, explainging that they refused to do so, as they do not have any money.  He added that security, protection of convoys and roads are all components of the authorities’ duties and responsibilities, and not those of the citizens. Lastly, the activist added that humanitarian organizations, including WFP and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, have informed them that a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the food related issues, he added to Radio Dabanga.
