A charity benefit concert due to be held at Sudan’s National Theatre on Saturday in aid of Jebel Marra landslide victims was cancelled at the last minute by the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS).

Singer Mohamed El fateh Zolo said that the organising committee notified him of the cancellation of the event without explanation an hour before it was about to begin.

He said that the permits of the ceremony dedicated to the victims of landslides in Jebel Marra had been finalised and approved by all parties, including the NISS.

He explained that accordingly the organising committee publicised announcements of the event in the streets.

The villages of Wadi Tulba and Tagoli, both in Kass locality, in the Jebel Marra mountains were hit by landslides following heavy rains in early September. Many deaths were reported and dozens of families were left destitute.
