Speaking to Dabanga, fleeing villagers reported that elements of the Rapid Support Forces in five vehicles, and others riding camels, raided Ed El Gerid, 60km northwest of Kutum town, at about 2pm.

They related how Omar Mohamed, Mubarak Ali Hasaballah and a boy named Mohamed were killed. Three others were injured. The attackers pillaged the houses, and stole more than 500 head of livestock.

“After that Birdik was plundered,” another villager said. “They shot and killed Mubarak Adam Mukhtar and Abakar Mohamed Ismail and injured Idris Mohamed Abdelmoula. Large numbers of camels, cows, sheep and goats were stolen.”

The sources renewed their appeal to the authorities to stop the militia attacks against civilians.
