About 100 cases handled by South Darfur Emergency Court last month

The South Darfur state authorities announced on Saturday that its Emergency Court adjudicated about 100 cases in November.
Abdelrahman Hussein Gardud, the spokesman for the South Darfur state government, reported that the court last month sentenced about 100 violators of the state’s Emergency Law to varying periods in prison.
The Emergency Court was established in South Darfur’s capital of Nyala in July this year, as part of emergency measures taken to reduce the rampant criminality in the state.

Abdelrahman Hussein Gardud, the spokesman for the South Darfur state government, reported that the court last month sentenced about 100 violators of the state’s Emergency Law to varying periods in prison.

Gardud added that a group of some 36 suspects, arrested in Ed El Fursan and Mershing localities, are still to be tried.

He furthermore stated that the ring-ditch created around Nyala has been maintained, “so as to keep control over the entrances and exits of the city”. 

The Emergency Court was established in South Darfur’s capital of Nyala in July this year, as part of emergency measures taken to reduce the rampant criminality in the state. The court would speedily try offenders of the measures, that banned the wearing of masks, carrying guns by civilians, and the use of unregistered cars and motorcycles.
