Abbala and Sudan army clash in Nertiti market, Central Darfur

Shops were closed and residents fled to their homes during a clash between two soldiers of the Sudanese military (SAF) and an Abbala tribesman “armed by the government” in Nertiti, Central Darfur.   Citizens who witnessed the incidence at the town’s butcher market told Radio Dabanga on Thursday afternoon that tensions escalated when Abbala-supporters arrived at the scene. They noted, however, that a bigger disaster was avoided when elders intervened and the agitation subdued. A witness told Radio Dabanga the gunmen, riding horses and camels, stormed the area because they believed the alleged thieves sought refugee in the camp.   Kalma: 3 displaced arrested Security services arrested on Friday three displaced of Kalma camp who were visiting Bielel’s town weekly market. The area is located near South Darfur’s capital of Nyala. Hussein Abu Sharati, spokesman for the association of displaced persons and refugees of Darfur, told Radio Dabanga the three men were suspected of stealing a vehicle belonging to the Sudanese army. The car was allegedly parked inside the military garrison in Bielel city, and Abu Sharati claims that for this reason he does not think the displaced could have stolen it. Abu Sharati requested the security services and UNAMID to carry out an investigation to find out who committed the crime. However, he said, if the displaced appear to be guilty, Bielel’s commissioner should arrest them.
