Kalma camp sheikhs ‘unanimously reject Doha Agreement’

More than 50 sheikhs agree that Dr. Tijani Sese, who signed the Doha Agreement, is not welcome in the camp The top leader in the massive Kalma camp in South Darfur, Sheikh Ali Abdul Rahman Tahir, requested Dr. Tijani Sese, head of the Transitional Darfur Regional Authority (TDRA), not to visit the camp. Sese, who was expected in Nyala today, is not welcome in the camp, said the sheikh. He explained that problems and differences which could arise if Sese his entourage from the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) visit the camp.

The sheikh told Radio Dabanga that more than 50 sheikhs and heads of camp blocks met with him as the head of sheikhs and requested him to send this message to Dr. Tijani Sese. He asserted that they as the sheikhs of the camps unanimously refuse the Doha Agreement, Sese’s visit would be met by protests.

Sheikh Ali also revealed that some elders from the camp have received threats from people affiliated to the LJM saying that they would enter the camp by force.

On the other hand, the Qatari mediator Ahmed Bin Abdulla Al-Mahmud, who is presently traveling with Sese through Darfur, announced that his country would support the implementation of the Doha Agreement and development projects that could assist development and stability in Darfur as well as the return of refugees and displaced people to their villages. Al-Mahmud stated that there are mechanisms that would follow up on the agreement and projects that would be implemented under Qatari leadership. He also announced the beginning of the procedure of establishing the Qatar Bank for the Development of Darfur with a start-up capital of 2 billion dollars.
