Herders shoot farmer in Sirba locality

A farmer from Kendebe, in Sirba locality, West Darfur, was shot by herders inside his house, a local resident told Radio Dabanga on Wednesday, 21 November. The victim was reportedly taken to a hospital in El-Geneina, the state’s capital, for treatment. The herders invaded the property of the farmer Ibrahim Gandul with their camels and shot the victim when he tried stopping the incursion, the witness recounted. Gandul was shot on his thigh, what caused him serious wounds, and was therefore transferred to a hospital in El-Geneina, the local resident explained to Radio Dabanga. He added that the police have been notified about the incident. However, it claimed not having the ‘capability’ of chasing the perpetrators without backup from El-Geneina. The resident pointed out these kinds of incidents occur often due to the widespread insecurity in the area. He demanded from the state governor, the commissioner and the local administration to provide security to citizens of Sirba locality.
