Five women and girls assaulted, raped in North Darfur

Four women and girls were raped, and a fifth injured, when a gang of paramilitaries intercepted them north of camp Sortony in North Darfur on Sunday. An unknown shooter caused panic at the Ministry of Health in Nyala.

Four women and girls were raped, and a fifth injured, when a gang of paramilitaries intercepted them north of camp Sortony in North Darfur on Sunday. An unknown shooter caused panic at the Ministry of Health in Nyala.

An activist from the area told Radio Dabanga that nine militiamen riding camels and horses attacked the group of five displaced women and girls while they were collecting firewood. The men raped four of them, aged 13, 15, 18, and 21. A 30-year-old resisted and was shot in her right leg.

The gunmen escaped. The activist said that the girls were transferred to Sortony hospital.

Nyala shooting

An unidentified gunman opened fire in front of the office of the Minister of Health in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur which sparked panic among the Ministry staff.

An official source at the Health Ministry confirmed that an unidentified person, whose motive is not known, opened fire in front of the office, of Heath Minister Yagoub Ibrahim El Domoki. Nobody was injured.

The shooter escaped using a vehicle that was waiting for him in front of the Ministry gate. The government official called for a security guard for the Ministry to control entry and exit.
