Sudan security reopens market for Nuba Mountains

The security authorities of Lagawa in West Kordofan have allowed the people in the areas of the Nuba Mountains under the control of the opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North (SPLM-N) to buy basic necessities from Lagawa market since Saturday.

On Monday witnesses told Radio Dabanga that the security services allowed the residents of Tema, Tullushi, and Jild to buy their basic needs from Lagawa market, but in limited quantities accessed through permits to be issued by the security forces outside Lagawa.

Security agents had been blockading the areas for two weeks. Merchants told Radio Dabanga that they imposed private permits and strict procedures on the merchants and retailers of those villages for buying basic necessities such as sugar, flour and fuel.
