Officials say returns from shelters in Nyala will be voluntary and depend on security, basic services, and conditions in neighbourhoods damaged by the war\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities in South Darfur have begun preparations to return people displaced from the North Darfur capital of El Fasher who are currently living in shelters in Nyala, as part of what they describe as a voluntary return programme. Halima Mahdi, South Darfur\u2019s minister of social affairs, says the authorities will first register those who want to return before visiting neighbourhoods in El Fasher to assess the condition of homes and basic services.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during a visit to a shelter housing people displaced from El Fasher, Mahdi stresses that no one will be forced to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
