Procedures are underway for them to be returned to their rightful owners.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police spokesman Brig Gen Fatha Rahman confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the Committee for Security Control and Enforcing State Authority has so far managed to collect more than 6,000 in various localities of the state. The recovered vehicles are being moved to premises of the Khartoum International Fair, until the rightful owners can claim them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Rahman added that the rightful owners will be able to claim the vehicles in accordance with criminal procedures, either by physically filing a report at a police ststion, or online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that the vehicles will be returned once the identity of the rightful owner has been verified with supporting documents, following data checks via the traffic system, and once each vehicle has been examined for forensic evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Rahman confirmed that the process of delivering the vehicles will be free of charge, with no fees imposed by any party in exchange for receiving these vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/\u0627\u0628\u0648\u062e\u062f\u064a\u062c\u0629.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Police spokesman Brig Gen Fatha Rahman (statement in Arabic)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Boko Haram<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, there are thousands of unregistered and unlicenced vehicles (popularly called <em>Boko Haram<\/em>) in Sudan, many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/north-darfur-to-register-boko-haram-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">smuggled across the borders from neighbouring countries<\/a>, in spite of several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-boko-haram-vehicles-to-be-licensed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campaigns<\/a> over the years to enforce that they be properly legalised and registered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018fog\u2019 of the current war has made it even more difficult to register and regulate vehicles, amid widespread theft and looting.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"510\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG-20231214-WA000124.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20062775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG-20231214-WA000124.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG-20231214-WA000124-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG-20231214-WA000124-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG-20231214-WA000124-130x173.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Cars being buried in Khartoum in 2023, a precautionary measure, as the RSF were reportedly &#8220;stealing anything they can lay their hands on&#8221; (File photo: Supplied)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Interpol<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As reported by Radio Dabanga in August 2025, the Sudanese embassy in N\u2019Djamena announced it received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-receives-125-looted-vehicles-from-chad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">125 vehicles<\/a> that were stolen in Sudan and smuggled into Chad during the war. The handover formed part of ongoing judicial and security cooperation between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement seen by Radio Dabanga, the Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires of the Sudanese Embassy, Ambassador Abdallah Abakar Saleh, said that the majority of the 125 recovered vehicles were luxury four-wheel drives. They were handed over to the embassy by Chadian police in coordination with Interpol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vehicle theft<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports of widespread vehicle theft \u2013 particularly by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) \u2013 have persisted since the early months of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December 2023, Radio Dabanga <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-battles-fighting-renews-in-khartoum-north-omdurman-activists-attacked\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that RSF troops were \u201cstealing anything they can lay their hands on\u201d in Khartoum, including private property and vehicles. Some residents resorted to burying their cars to prevent them from being seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police at the time said it received more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-police-tackle-vehicle-thefts-after-restoration-of-electronic-data-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">29,000 reports of vehicle theft<\/a> and had notified Interpol of vehicles that were smuggled abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In early August 2023, the Sudanese Golden Arrow Group, the exclusive agent for Toyota, Hino, and Yamaha in the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-war-clashes-near-um-ruwaba-airstrikes-on-khartoum-companies-report-financial-losses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported the theft of<\/a> 1,192 Toyota vehicles, 173 Hino trucks, and a large number of motorcycles from its showrooms and warehouses in Khartoum and Khartoum North (Bahri) following the RSF\u2019s advance into the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International organisations were also affected. In February 2024, M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/gunmen-seize-msf-vehicles-pre-dawn-central-darfur-heist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two of its vehicles were stolen<\/a> during an armed raid by ten unidentified gunmen on its medical centre in Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sudan\u2019s border with Chad has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/libyan-official-foreign-fighters-smuggled-into-libya-egypt-via-sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long served as a conduit<\/a> for illicit trade in arms, ammunition, and contraband goods. <em>Dabanga<\/em> has previously reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudan-transparency-and-policy-tracker-rsf-exploiting-north-darfur-trade-route\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RSF supply routes<\/a> extending through western Darfur into eastern Chad, where porous borders and limited oversight have enabled the movement of fighters and stolen assets.<\/p>\n<div
