Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lt Gen Abdelfattah El Burhan, has launched a fierce attack on the Quartet and the US\u2019s Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos, accusing them of trying to dismantle Sudan\u2019s armed forces and break up the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during a press briefing yesterday,\u00a0El Burhan<\/a>\u00a0charged that the Quartet, comprising the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, \u201cseeks to divide Sudan, abolish the army and dissolve the security services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Burhan praised the\u00a0role of Saudi Crown Prince<\/a>\u00a0Mohammed bin Salman, describing him as \u201cthe voice of truth and the voice of the region.\u201d He said Sudanese people affected by the war \u201clook with satisfaction and appreciation at the efforts of the Saudi crown prince,\u201d adding that Saudi mediation represents \u201can opportunity to spare the country destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SAF chief claimed he personally clarified \u201cthe true picture of\u00a0what is going on in Sudan<\/a>\u201d to US President Donald Trump. Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum last week, Trump announced that he would personally intervene to help end the war, saying the decision followed a request from Saudi Arabia\u2019s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump told the audience: \u201cI thought it was just something that was crazy and out of control. But I just see how important that is to you [Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman] and to a lot of your friends in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burhan said the SAF will cooperate with the Saudi initiative \u201cin the ideal way that comforts all Sudanese,\u201d stressing that previous mediation efforts had been rejected<\/a> because they allowed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF)\u00a0to remain<\/a>\u00a0\u201cin the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Criticism of Quartet<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Burhan dismissed the\u00a0Quartet\u2019s proposals<\/a>, arguing they contradict Sudan\u2019s sacrifices and the military\u2019s role. He said the army submitted its own road map demanding the RSF withdraw from all areas captured since the Jeddah Declaration. According to him, the Quartet ignored this and instead put forward a \u201cworst\u201d proposal to dissolve the army and security services while keeping the RSF, a move he warned would render the mediation \u201cnon-neutral.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also accused\u00a0Massad Boulos<\/a>\u00a0of acting like an enforcer for foreign powers. \u201cBoulos talks to us as if he wants to impose things on us, and we fear he will be an obstacle to peace,\u201d Burhan claimed, adding that Boulos \u201ckeeps threatening us and accusing us of obstructing aid and using chemical weapons, as if he wants to impose things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Burhan further accused the envoy of \u201cspeaking in the language of the\u00a0UAE<\/a>,\u201d claiming his positions matched those of the RSF and its allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe consider the Quartet unacceptable because of the presence of the Emirates,\u201d El Burhan declared. He also rejected claims that the army is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Army sets conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SAF leader dismissed the possibility of political compromises. \u201cNo one accepts this or accepts the existence of the [RSF] and their supporters,\u201d he said, accusing the RSF of using ceasefires to \u201cmobilise and besiege cities<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will not accept half-measures,\u201d he insisted, adding that his government would not allow\u00a0former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok<\/a>\u00a0or RSF leader Lt Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) \u201cto be imposed on Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He laid out conditions for a ceasefire, including a complete RSF withdrawal from cities captured after the Jeddah Agreement<\/a>, naming Zalingei, El Geneina, El Fasher and Nyala, followed by RSF cantonment in designated areas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only then, he said, could Sudanese hold a national dialogue to determine the country\u2019s political future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vowing to continue the war if these conditions are not met, El Burhan pledged: \u201cWe will retake\u00a0Darfur and Kordofan<\/a>\u00a0and expel the Rapid Support Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n
