{"id":20119624,"date":"2025-08-14T18:38:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T16:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/?p=20119624"},"modified":"2025-08-18T17:45:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T15:45:19","slug":"radio-dabanga-editor-in-chief-sudan-has-become-a-forgotten-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/radio-dabanga-editor-in-chief-sudan-has-become-a-forgotten-country","title":{"rendered":"Radio Dabanga Editor in Chief: \u2018Sudan has become a forgotten country\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Reporters from the Netherlands national radio station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nporadio1.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>NPO Radio 1<\/em><\/a><em>*<\/em> visited the studios of Radio Dabanga in Amsterdam today to interview Editor in Chief Kamal Elsadig and ask other journalists and presenters about the situation in Sudan, which is often \u201ca forgotten country\u201d amid unrelenting reports of conflicts elsewhere in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The slot in today\u2019s edition of news programme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nporadio1.nl\/programmas\/nieuws-en-co\"><em>Nieuws en Co<\/em><\/a>, broadcast in prime \u2018drive time\u2019 from 17:00 \u2013 18:30, features Radio Dabanga Editor in Chief and veteran Sudanese journalist Kamal Elsadig, who also chairs the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/all-news\/article\/sudanese-media-forum-a-united-front-against-disinformation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sudan Media Forum<\/a>, an alliance of independent Sudanese press and media organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the current media landscape in Sudan, Elsadig tells <em>Nieuws en Co<\/em>: \u201cThere were about 3,000 journalists in Sudan, but 2,000 have fled to neighbouring countries\u2026 that is why you do not hear [more news] about Sudan, and that is why Sudan has become a forgotten country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also highlights how millions of displaced people in conflict and marginalised areas, as well as Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries, rely on Radio Dabanga\u2019s daily shortwave and satellite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dabangasudan.org\/en\/broadcasts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">broadcasts<\/a> for reliable, independent news. Across Sudan, internet and mobile phone access is curtailed, controlled, unreliable, and intermittent, especially in those marginalised areas and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
