The war in Sudan is often referred to as a \u201cforgotten conflict.\u201d A three-page news feature<\/a> in the respected Amsterdam-based Dutch daily newspaper De Volkskrant<\/a> <\/em>today, highlights how Radio Dabanga is \u201ca beacon\u201d for millions of Sudanese, where access to independent news is \u201ca matter of life and death\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the feature, journalist Marjolein van de Water<\/a>, who reports on asylum, migration, and multicultural society, interviews Radio Dabanga Editor in Chief, Kamal Elsadig, as well as other journalists and presenters in the Amsterdam newsroom. The article is illustrated with photographs by Shirin Abedi.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cRadio Dabanga is the only source of independent news for millions of Sudanese. The question is for how long. Funding is drying up, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to connect with people in the hunger- and war-torn country,\u201d the article intro says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe war in Sudan is a \u2018forgotten conflict,\u2019 with Western media and politicians making relatively little mention of it. This is partly due to the fact that the West has virtually no vested interest in Sudan. It does not supply weapons to warring parties and maintains no close or economic ties with the country,\u201d the article laments.<\/p>\n\n\n
