Civil society organisation, Darfur Union UK condemned the formation of a new \u201cfounding government\u201d announced by the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), labelling it a \u201cgenocidal alliance\u201d and an attempt to “whitewash crimes against humanity”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement released yesterday<\/a>, the organisation said: \u201cThis announcement is not a step toward peace, it is a propaganda exercise designed to whitewash crimes against humanity, disguise ethnic cleansing as governance, and manipulate the international community into legitimising a militia-led criminal enterprise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe view this council as nothing more than a genocidal alliance of warlords, opportunists, and foreign proxies,\u201d the Darfur Union stated, describing its formation as \u201can insult to every victim who has suffered under\u00a0RSF violence<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere can be no peace without justice,\u201d the Union added. \u201cThere can be no future for Sudan that includes the RSF or any of its affiliates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reaffirming its commitment to a civilian-led, democratic Sudan, the Darfur Union called on the international community \u201cto stand with the victims, not the perpetrators, of war and atrocity,\u201d warning that \u201chistory will remember who stood against genocide, and who attempted to dress it in the language of peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foreign ministry denounces parallel government<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed this rejection, calling on regional governments, international organisations, and NGOs to denounce the announcement and refrain from recognising what it described as an \u201cillegal organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In their statement, the ministry said: \u201cDealing with this announcement in any way is an infringement on the Government of Sudan and its sovereignty over all its territory and represents a flagrant violation of the rights and capabilities of the Sudanese people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly formed\u00a0parallel government<\/a>\u00a0led by Tasees and announced in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, includes the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the SPLM-North led by Abdelaziz El Hilu, named RSF Commander Mohamed \u2018Hemedti\u2019 Dagalo as president of a 15-member Presidential Council. El Hilu was appointed vice president, and former Sovereign Council member Mohamed Hassan El Tawashi was named Prime Minister. Eight governors were also appointed across Sudan\u2019s regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also\u00a0accused Kenya<\/a>\u00a0of enabling the initial\u00a0controversial RSF meetings in Nairobi<\/a>\u00a0that took place earlier this year, in preparation for the announcement, describing this as \u201ca clear violation of Sudan\u2019s sovereignty,\u201d and a breach of the UN, AU, and IGAD charters that support Sudan\u2019s unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calling the move a \u201cfictitious government\u201d orchestrated by the RSF, the ministry added: \u201cThe announcement of the Rapid Support Forces of its government through social media pages indicates its defeat in front of the armed forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It further asserted that civilian participation in the coalition \u201creveals the true face of those alliances\u201d and demonstrates collusion with the RSF in its armed power grab on 15 April 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAF and political blocs react<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sudan\u2019s Armed Forces spokesperson, Brig Gen Nabil Abdullah, launched a fierce condemnation on the coalition, stating: \u201cThis government is a desperate attempt to legitimise their project and pass the agenda of those who support them from abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He dismissed the initiative as \u201can attempt to deceive even their partners\u201d and described the RSF\u2019s ambitions as a \u201cracist project.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The League of Arab States strongly condemned the move, calling it \u201ca blatant violation of the will of the people and an attempt to impose a fait accompli with weapons.\u201d It warned that the formation of parallel governments \u201cundermines the State\u201d and could lead to Sudan being divided into rival cantons, jeopardising regional stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The League called on Sudanese factions to halt unilateral actions, comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2736\u2014which calls for an end to the siege on El Fasher\u2014and honour the 2023\u00a0Jeddah Agreement<\/a>\u00a0on civilian protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forces for Freedom and Change-Democratic Bloc branded the founding government \u201cconstitutionally, politically and morally invalid,\u201d calling it \u201ca front\u201d for justifying rebellion and covering up crimes against humanity. The bloc reiterated that the only legitimate government is one recognised by the people and the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council<\/a>\u00a0dismissed the move as \u201ca miserable attempt\u201d by the RSF to pressure the government after failing to seize power militarily.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, the\u00a0Free Lions Party<\/a>\u00a0welcomed the new government, calling it \u201cthe embodiment of the aspirations of the Sudanese people\u201d and \u201cthe beginning of a new era that promises security, accountability and transparency.\u201d Its statement claimed the government \u201caims to serve the people, not control them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sudan Liberation Movement faction known as\u00a0SLM-Tambour<\/a>, led by armed movement leader and Democratic Bloc member Mustafa Tambour, criticised the council as a \u201cfake advocate of neutrality,\u201d placing it in alliance with what he termed \u201cthe Rapid Support Militia, which is nearing the end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sudanese Group for the Defence of Rights and Freedoms warned that the parallel government violates the founding principles of the Sudanese state established in 1955. It expressed concern the move could reignite partition projects and called for legal dialogue on constitutional legitimacy.<\/p>\n
