A bombing by Sudan\u2019s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the maternity ward of the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher, North Darfur, has killed at least 70 people and injured dozens, wiping out the city\u2019s only fully operational health facility, according to the El Fasher Resistance Committees.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack on Friday night destroyed the hospital\u2019s emergency department, leaving the city without its only fully\u00a0operational health facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saudi hospital, a lifeline for obstetrics, paediatrics, and surgery, has been\u00a0repeatedly shelled<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darfur\u2019s governor,\u00a0Minni Arko Minawi<\/a>, condemned the bombing as \u201can extermination,\u201d reporting over 70 deaths, including women and children. \u201cThis was a horrific attack on vulnerable patients,\u201d he said on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the attack on the hospital, the RSF\u2019s multi-pronged attack on El Fasher on Friday, also struck the\u00a0Abu Shouk displacement camp<\/a>, killing eight people, injuring dozens, and destroying homes. The attack prompted fierce resistance from Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The violence prompted Ayoub Nahar, an RSF advisor, to resign<\/a>, citing the force\u2019s \u201cdeviation\u201d and its targeting of civilians. \u201cIndiscriminate shelling in Zamzam camp, Abu Shouk camp, and other camps has killed innocent civilians,\u201d Nahar said in a video statement, severing ties with the RSF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Health Organisation (WHO) condemned the attack as \u201chorrific,\u201d warning it worsens North Darfur\u2019s health crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council labelled the bombing a \u201cflagrant violation of international humanitarian law\u201d and called for accountability. Qatar echoed calls for protecting health workers and civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saudi Hospital bombing highlights the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Darfur. Similar attacks, including on the MADO health centre in El Malha, have crippled healthcare services, leaving displaced populations in dire need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident has reignited calls for peace and accountability as Sudan\u2019s ongoing conflict devastates communities and threatens the survival of essential services.<\/p>\n
